I live and work inside my bright home studio within the small city of Campbell River on Vancouver Island. I spend my days with my husband, two sons, my easel, and art supplies. My relationship with my creativity started when I was five years old. I was born on the Island. The natural versatile landscapes surrounding me, combined with my own personal experiences, has shaped how I perceive the world and turn it into art. The hyper fixation with anything visual started very early. It was just something I have always clung to. I also had some very encouraging humans in my life that provided me with a safe space to explore and share my visions with. The only restrictions I had was materials, but made due with what I had on hand even if it was just my own mind. I have been creating art of many medias and subjects since my soul entered the planet, and I plan to continue until my last moment.
Part of my childhood was spent on my grandmothers ten acre property which had a profound influence on my creativity and life as a whole. It was mostly forested with a creek that flowed right through the acreage. I didn’t have many friends in that area, so I would spend many hours alone with nature. It was intimate, raw and left a mark that now translates into how I paint the world around me.
Through the years I developed good connections to the surrounding artistic communities. Now a days, my goals have shifted to not just making art, for my own personal needs, but to also give back and help people with their mental health through my paintings and skills in various ways. I am now teaching art and spend a portion of my time online sharing encouraging words. I feel like this is just the beginning still, and I have so much more to share and create. My paintings are mostly landscape themed using acrylic on canvas, however, once in a while I dive into my explorative nature and create with other subjects and mediums. Everything I create comes back to my inner visions and personal voice and that is the human soul and nature with a colourful whimsy flow. I want my work to feel intimate and loving with a feeling of home and safety.
