    • Class Title: Under My Umbrella: Intro to Cold Wax & Oil
Class Date: Sat, Oct 17, 2026 at 10am

      Instructor Name(s): Patt Scrivener

Class Description: Join Patt for an expressive journey into cold wax and oil painting on wood panel. Beginning with a reference image of a figure holding an umbrella, we will focus on interpretation rather than replication. The image serves only as a spark, inviting you to respond with intuition, imagination, and personal vision. Through layering, scraping, drawing, and building texture, the painting will evolve organically as you explore mood, movement, and atmosphere. This workshop is designed to encourage creative freedom, helping artists move beyond literal representation and discover unexpected possibilities within the rich, tactile qualities of cold wax and oil.

Instructor Bio: Patt Scrivener’s creativity grew from rural life, music, and a lifelong love of making. Though she began painting young, a 2003 mixed-media workshop deepened her artistic path and inspired an intuitive, process-led practice. Patt holds an AFCA designation with the Federation of Canadian Artists. Now a full-time artist, mentor, and life coach, she creates and teaches from her Parksville studio, inspiring curiosity, experimentation, and meaningful creative growth.
