Back from the Brink

The Conservation Success Stories of Vancouver Island Marmots, Western Purple Martins and Sea Otters

This exhibition tells the stories of three species from land, sky, and sea that have come back from the brink of extinction. They are stories of hope, resilience, and commitment. These species were all once abundant on the west coast, and were all negatively impacted by the human world. Today, they are protected and returning due to conservation efforts by dedicated people and communities, who are driven to ensure their long-term survival. 

There are very few species that have not been impacted by humans, and today there are many worldwide that are near extinction. The stories of the Marmot, Martin and Otter are three that should give us hope in the resilience of nature and wildlife when given a chance. 

Biography

I have loved photography for over twenty years, ever since taking a film photography and dark room class in high school. In 2021, I began taking photos of wildlife on Vancouver Island and became committed to conservation storytelling through photography. 

My photography is rooted in a deep love for animals and wild places. I love to tell stories about wildlife–both stories of resilience, as well as stories that inspire people to care and act.

I am currently taking a Master of Arts in Environmental Education and Communication at Royal Roads University, as well as researching conservation success stories for exhibitions and an upcoming book.
