The pieces in this exhibit speak to a dreamlike, romantic, slightly uncanny world. There is a recurring tension between beauty and wildness, elegance and instinct. The figures exist in an archetypal space of mythology and longing, where human and nature intertwine, removed from both glamour and nostalgia.
I am an award-winning visual artist and painter living in beautiful Nanaimo. My work focuses on the human figure and its relationship to its environment, informed by both current and historical events that have a strong narrative and visual impact. I try to take a contemporary approach to my subjects, their expression in paint, and my choices of color and mediums, eschewing a more rigorous academic methodology in favour of a looser, spontaneous, and even "unfinished" look to my work.
