Claire Olivier is a ceramic artist living in Qualicum Beach and was an active member of the Salt Spring Island Potters Guild for over 20 years.
To create her porcelain vases she must flatten clay to a thinness of only 1/8" (2 cm) then embellish the slab with elements from nature to add texture and visual interest. The thinness creates lightness and translucency. The vase is then fired in a kiln twice then coloured underglazes and a final seal of a transparent water tight glaze is added.
