May 2 – Mosaics – Debra Hagen
Feel like creating with a medium that’s been used for thousands of years? In this class you will have the opportunity to do just that! We will be using a glass tile from Italy called smalti. It comes in many different colours and is treasured for its texture and shine. It is an excellent material to create both abstract and representational work. The substrate will be a 6” x 6” cradle board.

About the Instructor: Although she has dabbled in a number of different art forms, Debra’s focus has been on mosaics for over two decades now. During that time she has taken many classes with several internationally respected mosaic artists as well as attended a week-long mosaic class at Orsoni’s Glass Factory in Venice. Debra uses a wide range of materials in her mosaics and can include items such as dishware, pebbles, shells and found objects, as well as more traditional materials such as marble and smalti (Italian glass tiles).
