Program Information and Schedule

CULINARY ARTS – August 13-24, 2018

Junior and Senior Jazz students will work with creative culinary artists to present a daily luncheon, combining creativity with fine local ingredients together in a wonderful ensemble of learning and cooking experience.

JUNIOR AND SENIOR JAZZ  – August 13-17, 2018

Junior Jazz: 13-15 yrs                              Senior Jazz: 16-19 yrs

In our Junior/Senior jazz sessions, we combine roughly equal parts of “tutti” sessions — focusing on fundamental concepts expressed through group exercises, master classes, small ensemble playing and outdoor/physical activities. These sessions tend to be broad in scope musically, allowing the participants to explore their own creativity by incorporating elements of contemporary and world music into the jazz framework.

ADULT JAZZ – August 20-24, 2018

The adult jazz sessions have traditionally been based on the model of coached ensembles. Repertoire is often chosen according to a theme (in the past we have had “Blue Note”, “Jazz Messengers”, “Cedar Walton” ensembles) and distributed to the musicians prior to arrival. Adult jazz applicants are welcome to identify if they would prefer a more relaxed “Real Book” type situation, working on standards, or step it up a notch working in more of a “hard-bop” type setting. Both the adult jazz and vocal participants will enjoy three lunches catered by talented culinary professionals from the local area and beyond.
