Born in the prairies, Susan moved to Vancouver Island in 2007.
With a background in graphic design and printing, she quickly became involved in the local art scene by publishing Island Arts Magazine in 2008, hosting Island Arts Expo from 2009-2013 and exhibiting her artwork.
She continues to grow as an artist by hosting and attending workshops. She has taken over 20 classes learning from some of Canada’s top artists, while adding a few tips and tricks to her own colouring box.
She also enjoy teaching classes, as Schaefer admits “Making her a better painter.”
The title of this exhibition is…
New Beginnings – 20 Years in the Making
What is New Beginnings?
Susan says, “It is everything I have done in the past 20 years to bring me to this place. It is about all my training, my experience, my involvement in the arts – my New Beginnings.
When people ask me how long a painting takes, I say, “20 Years…plus a week.”
Susan is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA) and a resident artist at The Old School House (TOSH) and the McMillan Arts Centre.
Her paintings reveal her love of gardening, her deep prairie roots, her new beginnings on the West Coast and her passion for life.
The McMillan Arts Centre is located on the traditional territory of the Coast Salish Nations, home to the Snaw-Naw-As First Nation
and the Qualicum First Nation
