About Art Bites:
Art Bites is a fun way to try out all different kinds of art mediums without investing a lot of time and money. Our instructors are welcoming and encourage everyone to ‘just have’ fun creating art. Try something you’ve always wondered about, or take a class with a friend or family member just for fun! Our classes run from Sept-Dec in the fall and Jan-Jun in the spring. Explore our full Art Bites fall schedule here.
Ready for more? Try our Art Gems workshops and explore techniques and mediums in a more in-depth workshop setting. No experience necessary; all supplies included.
Art Bites – Floral Fun! with Linda Greig
Sun Nov 3, 10 am – 12 pm
– CLASS FULL –
We will create vibrant abstract floral ‘paintings’, beginning with acrylic paint then adding torn paper, yarn, buttons and other ‘found’ materials. This will be a colourful, fun activity! No experience necessary.
About the instructor: “I came to art later in life! I worked as a teacher-librarian and French Immersion teacher in SD69. I also reviewed books and taught future teacher-librarians at UBC. When I retired, I thought I would write a book. But no! I took an art course, and I was hooked!
“My paintings are inspired by colourful rambling gardens and lush landscapes. I paint mostly in acrylic, and add torn paper, yarn and other, often recycled, embellishments. Lately, I have been experimenting with sewing art quilt ‘paintings’.”
Art Bites – An Introduction to Artist Trading Cards with Michelle Manke
Sun Dec 1, 1 pm – 3 pm
During this class students will receive a brief description and history of Artist Trading Cards before being guided through the creation of 5 ATCs using different materials and processes. We will also prep a larger background that can be cut up to make several more trading cards.
About the Instructor: Working mainly in mixed-media and fibre arts, Michelle Manke is a versatile and community-driven artist with a passion for sharing creativity with others. Her approach to art is centered around inclusivity, experimentation, and self-expression. She believes that art should be accessible to everyone, regardless of skill level or experience. Michelle has experience in leading art programs and classes, including creative programming in libraries, hosting art workshops for church groups, and facilitating interactive/collaborative art projects that bring people together.
