About Art Bites:

Art Bites is a fun way to try out all different kinds of art mediums without investing a lot of time and money.  Our instructors are welcoming and encourage everyone to ‘just have’ fun creating art.  Try something you’ve always wondered about, or take a class with a friend or family member just for fun!  Our classes run from Sept-Dec in the fall and Jan-Jun in the spring.  Explore our full Art Bites fall schedule here.

Art Bites – Bright, Bold Gouache with Carol Ann Owers

Register for this class

Gouache can achieve an impasto quality or a watercolour effect. It can be applied to a white watercolour paper or to black watercolour paper. We will experiment with both types of paper and try different techniques.

About the Instructor: Carol Ann is a professional artist who enjoys working in a wide range of mediums, and she brings her experience and expertise to the classroom. Nature in all of her beauty inspires her passion to paint. Living here on Vancouver Island, nature is only steps away to the most beautiful scenery in all of Canada. Carol Ann enjoys sharing her love of art and teaches Art Bites classes at the MAC.

Art Bites – Needle Felting a Beach Scene with Darrell Giraldeau

This Art Bites class will provide an introduction to needle felting. Students will have the opportunity to use wool to create a small 4×6 beach scene. Shells can be added after the class for more detail.

About the Instructor: Darrell Giraldeau is a fibre artist working with wool and loves the textures that can be created using wet and needle felting techniques. She has an extensive background in teaching both adults and children.

Art Bites: Watercolours with Carol Ann Owers

Watercolour helps us discover our creativity. It’s a versatile medium for different styles and subjects. Learn some different techniques, the value of lights and darks, and how to give your painting contrast and depth.

About the Instructor: Carol Ann is a professional artist who enjoys working in a wide range of mediums, and she brings her experience and expertise to the classroom. Nature in all of her beauty inspires her passion to paint. Living here on Vancouver Island, nature is only steps away to the most beautiful scenery in all of Canada. Art Bites – Slow Stitch with Margie Davidson

Learn how handstitching can be a relaxing, creative, mindful art practice and how it connects to the Òslow movementÓ culture.

About the Instructor: Margie Davidson is a quilt artist and surface designer. She enjoys painting, sunprinting, and blockprinting as well as cooking up colour with natural dyes. Art Bites – Follow the Forest Trail – Acrylic Painting with Alex Carr

All is quiet except for the sound of the wind passing through the trees-now let’s capture that moment in a forest painting. Using acrylics we will paint a forest scene with bold brush strokes and organic shapes. Emphasis on mixing your own colours.

About the Instructor: Alex Carr is an artist and illustrator living in Parksville BC. She loves exploring different mediums and styles, for example pencil drawing, digital illustration, acrylic painting and more. She likes to have fun with her work to express the beauty of the natural world. She is interested in a variety of subjects; be it plants, people or forest, there always something interesting to draw or paint. Alex is also coordinator of our Creative Kids program.

Art Bites – Lino Block Carving with Margie Davidson

This class will include information about printmaking as an art form and a hands-on experience of blockprinting on cloth with textile paint.
