In each workshop we will start the day with a short talk and demo, and then move on to paint our masterpieces! We will break for a short lunch around noon so bring something or plan on slipping out to pick something up. We will pick up our brushes after that and have a short critique session at the end of the day.

Loosening Up – March 26

In this workshop you will learn to loosen up your work and how to approach an abstract work. Our goal will be to create in a positive manner and discover new techniques to keep our paintings fresh, creative and spontaneous. We will explore some simple techniques that will bring a new perspective to your work and bring joy to your heart!!

Mixed Media Fun – April 23

In this workshop we will delve into some mult- media ideas and how to utilise them in our work. You will want to bring some of your favourite papers, cutouts, small items that bring you joy (and can be attached to a canvas). You can also feel free to use any paint mediums that you find interesting and enticing, eg. Gel, paste, sand, beads etc. If you plan to use these you may want to apply to the canvas prior to the class so they will be dry when you are ready to paint. We plan to get messy and have some fun?

Shapes, shapes and more shapes – May 28

In this workshop we will focus our efforts on incorporating shapes and how that effects the outcome!

Supplies to bring

Easel if you have one. The MAC has an assortment of table easels and some stand up easels as well, although there may not have enough or one you like.

Your paints and brushes and a canvas. Try and bring a canvas that allows you room to play around!

What to expect

There will be lots of painting of course. You are free to ask questions or look for guidance at any point throughout the day. We will start the day with a short talk of each day’s goals and what we hope to accomplish.  We will put into practise what we have learned and paint throughout the day. Questions are welcome and guidance where you might want it. We break for lunch around 12 to 1 pm, so bring something to fill that gap and keep up your energy. There are several fast food places that you can slip out to if you prefer. At the close of the day, around 2:30 to 3:00 pm we will reconvene for a wrap up and critique of the day.

Washrooms are close and available for our use.

Covid restrictions will be in place as per the Macmillan Gallery protocols at the time of the workshops. We will wear our masks and maintain distance throughout the day. If your workshop has to be cancelled due to restrictions, a full refund will be in effect.
