Shutters & Brushes: Jerry Filipski & Yolande Lambert

MARCH 3 – 28, 2020

Jerry Filipski:

My passion for photography was there from an early age but lay dormant for many years.  Born in Edmonton, Alberta in 1951 I received my first camera at the age of 10 but our family had modest means so printing photos was not a priority. As a laboratory coordinator in Zoology and Comparative Anatomy at The University of Alberta for 36 years, my appreciation for nature took root and flourished.

Upon my retirement 12 years ago with a subsequent move to Vancouver Island, I began my serious interest in photography.

I am a self-taught photographer who finds art in the simplest things in nature. My inspiration comes from light, water, wildlife or the beauty of the landscape around us. My biggest thrill is sharing my photos with others who may see the beauty around us through my eyes. To me, that’s what photography is all about.  Sharing.

My print media include works on metal and canvas. You can follow me on Instagram @jerryfilipskiphotography or email me.

Yolande (Yollie)Lambert:

My affinity for creative art began in childhood and blossomed from there. Born in 1953, I grew up in Edmonton Alberta where in grade school, art classes were always a favourite subject. In adulthood, my continued interest in art prompted enrolment into a commercial art program at Grant McEwan College, followed by graduation from Architectural Technology and Interior Design from NAIT in Edmonton. I moved to Vancouver in 1984 and established a career in commercial Interior Design spanned over 25 years. Learning to do architectural renderings introduced me to detailed painting with watercolours, which became a recreational pursuit in my spare time, peppered with art courses and experimentation with a variety of art mediums.

Since my retirement nine years ago and a move to Vancouver Island in early 2016, I have enjoyed painting with oils and water-mixable oils, as well as continuing with watercolours and I produce artwork regularly in all three media.

My inspiration for subject matter comes from whatever catches my eye, surrounding me every day in nature, local activity and travel. I am a member of DeCosmos Fine Arts Society and of the Tuesday Painters and Wednesday Painters Group at the McMillan Arts Centre.
