Class Descriptions

Rock Painting, Saturday, April 4th, 2020

Students will paint rocks using patterns, designs and illustrations. We’ll discuss the original rock paintings found in caves and their language of symbols. They will explore emphasis, texture and colour including how to mix colours.

Acrylic Painting, Saturday, April 11th, 2020 (note this is Easter weekend)

In this class, students will paint a still life by arranging a variety of objects we’ll have on hand, including flowers and fruit, and painting it. We’ll talk about some famous still life paintings, such as Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, focusing on proportion, value and shape.

Collage, Saturday, April 18th, 2020

Collage is fun and easy! We’ll look at French impressionist Matisse’s later work to see how he used colour cut-outs versus brushes to create his paintings. We’ll look at how line and form can create movement and unity.

Watercolour Painting, Saturday, April 25th, 2020

Our local artist, Toni Onley, will be the starting point for exploring watercolours. We will practice some watercolour techniques then use our beautiful beaches and forests as our inspiration to paint a watery landscape. We will learn about balance and space and how to compose a painting.
