About Art Bites:
Art Bites is a fun way to try out all different kinds of art mediums without investing a lot of time and money. Our instructors are welcoming and encourage everyone to ‘just have’ fun creating art. Try something you’ve always wondered about, or take a class with a friend or family member just for fun! Our classes run from Sept-Dec in the fall and Jan-Jun in the spring. Mar 5 AM Class – Oil Pastels with Deborah Nicol
An oil pastel is a painting and drawing medium in a stick! Explore this soft and blendable pastel to easily create vibrant and colourful images.
All supplies included in this class.
About the Instructor: Deborah Nicol is an emerging artist, working primarily in Acrylics. Deb started her artistic endeavors with pencil portraits, quickly moving into Oil Pastels and Oils and expanding into landscapes and paintings of children. In recent years she has moved into Acrylics and finding her true passion in Abstract venues.

Mar 5 PM Class – Collage Cards with Merrilyn Laursen
Have fun making a card while learning the basics of collage. All materials needed will be supplied but if you wish, you can bring your own collage materials to make your work more personal. (i.e., images, words and/or lettering from magazines, stickers, wallpaper, computer printouts of your own photos)

About the Instructor: Merrilyn Laursen lives, plays and paints in Parksville. And now she also adds collage to her creations. With all those pandemic hours to fill, she took a full year of joyful art instruction under UK artist, Fiona Godfrey. She discovered that it’s a medium with endless possibilities and is happy to share some tips and techniques in this Art Bites class.

March 19 – Drawing Tips & Techniques with Gordon Wilson
A fun and easy session that introduces students to create dynamic drawings using professional techniques. Instruction will include artwork examples along with demonstrations.

About the Instructor: Gordon Wilson enjoys taking seemingly complex art styles and making them accessible and easy to learn. He has a degree in design and education and has taught in high schools for 15 years, as well as other venues. Prior to teaching Gordon was a commercial designer and illustrator for 20 years working in television, publishing, and advertising.

Mar 26 AM Class – Mandalas with Judi Malcolm
With gentle mindful guidance, learn how to create a circle of beautiful patterns that speak to your heart and soul. If you can draw a flower petal or a leaf, you can draw a mandala!
All supplies included in this class.
About the Instructor: Judi is a late bloomer regarding art but had explored her creative side since she was a child. She incorporates mindfulness and nature into making mandala’s (Sanskrit for the word circle).

Mar 26 PM Class – Painting Miniatures with Lynn Orriss
Miniature Painting: A painting of very small dimensions, anything represented on a greatly reduced scale. We will be working in watercolor and ink to explore creating a true miniature painting.

About the Instructor: Lynn Orriss’ works have been exhibited across Canada and are included in private collections around the world. She says a day doesn’t go by where she isn’t being creative.
