About Art Foundations:
These day long workshops are geared for those who want to delve deeper into a particular art technique or medium. Our teacher artists have created classes that are engaging and welcoming, whether you’re following up an Art Bites class, or learning a new skill set to add to your art tool box.
June 5 – Acrylic Silk Painting with Diane Nelson
Participants will produce a 22 x 22″ painting on silk to take home. Patterns will be provided, but you are encouraged to have an idea for a composition. We’ll develop a pattern, which we’ll sketch on silk with gutta, then paint with special acrylics. You will be experimenting with many colours of ‘gutta’, like gold, silver, copper and pearly white!’ Include that the final product is lightfast.
Cost: $100 – all materials supplied
About the Instructor: Dianne’s first piece sold while she was working as a teacher in Saskatchewan. She has worked and traveled in Australia as well as various places in Canada, including Bella Bella, Ucluelet and the Northwest Territories. It was there, in the tiny Dene hamlet of Fort Liard that she discovered her passion with colour; painting on silk. She continues to be a member of the NWT Arts Association. Since moving to Vancouver Island in, she has exhibited at the Filberg Festival in Comox, The Old School House in Qualicum Beach and the MacMillan Arts Centre in Parksville.


June 12 – Soft Pastels with Lucy Wallace
This course is intended to help you develop soft pastel painting in your own way, to build your skills and understanding in order to achieve your artistic goals.
We’ll start with the basics and progress to completing a landscape painting in soft pastels using a variety of techniques and effects. It uses a step-by-step approach, supported by the fundamentals of art, and to work effectively and efficiently. Photo reference will be supplied.

About the Instructor: Lucy works primarily in soft pastels. She loves the feel of the medium and the luscious colours. Lucy has a BA in Studio Art (U of S). She is a Signature Member of Pastel Artists Canada, a member of Pastellistes de France, Art du Pastel en France, and holds Active Status with the FCA, and has multiple award-winning works held in permanent and private collections in Canada and abroad.
