These day long workshops are geared for those who want to delve deeper into a particular art technique or medium.  Our  teacher artists have created classes that are engaging and welcoming, whether you’re following up an Art Bites class, or learning a new skill set to add to your art tool box.

Feb 6 –  Dry Media Drawing with Gordon Wilson

Explore line, shape, shadow, placement and more to help build confidence in your drawing skills. This class incorporates a variety of dry mediums such as pencil, conte, charcoal  to create images with a variety of exciting effects.

About the Instructor: Gordon Wilson enjoys taking seemingly complex art styles and making them accessible and easy to learn.  He has a degree in design and education and has taught in high schools for 15 years, as well as other venues.  Prior to teaching Gordon was a commercial designer and illustrator for 20 years working in television, publishing, and advertising.

Feb 13 – Wet Media Drawing with Gordon Wilson

In this session students will briefly re-cap the basic drawing principles and then proceed to expand their skills using brush and water media. Drawing with a brush not only affords the artist a wide range of line and texture in their artwork, but is also a useful addition to the drawing experience. Students will have the opportunity to explore landscape drawing, still life drawing, and composition while honing their brush drawing skills at the same time.
This class will consist of instructor demonstrations, one-on-one tutoring, along with visual examples and informational handouts.

Feb 27 – Decoding Colour: Colour Theory with Margery Blom

Students will be mixing colours, using warm and cool tones to create an individual colour palette. Several small painting projects will be completed during this class to help understand the fundamental science of colour and applied theory.

About the Instructor: Margery Blom  BFA is an oil paint artist specializing in scenes from Vancouver Island. Margery displays in galleries all over the Island and is an active member of FCA.  You can find Margery as Resident Artist at the McMillan Arts Centre on Thursdays.
