Fibre Art Network (FAN) presents

Ekphrastic

February 27 to April 14, 2018

Mary Holdgrafer – The Moment

Featuring 48 Western Canadian Fibre Artists and 12 Canadian poets

Opening Reception Saturday, March 3, 2018, from 1-3 pm

The Fibre Arts Network is a co-operative of Western Canadian fibre artists committed to promoting fibre as an art form and each other as artists.  Many members have been recognized both nationally and internationally for their work.  Since 2000, FAN has presented 22 exhibitions at 64 Canadian venues, 5 in the US and 2 in New Zealand.

Ekphrastic denotes a rhetorical device whereby one medium of art is created to relate to another medium of art.  Usually ekphrastic poetry is created to respond to a piece of art.  FAN has put a distinctive spin on this process by inviting twelve well-know Canadian poets to contribute a poem of their choosing.  Each of the twelve poems have been interpreted by four FAN members in a wide range of styles.

The Ekphrastic exhibition is a unique showcase of the collective talents of these Canadian poets and fibre artists.   The exhibition opened at La Conner Quilt and Textile Museum, La Conner Washington in October 2016, and is now touring throughout Canada until December 2019.  For a complete list of artists and poets in this exhibit, please visit fibreartsnetwork.com
